Bobcats to visit undefeated Raiders

By Tom Dodge

The battle for the District 5-3A title continues with a showdown between the Eunice Bobcats and the Northwest Raiders.
The Bobcats downed Northwest 56-25 en route to the 2015 district championship and the undefeated Raiders want a shot at earning the title this season.
“This is game will have a lot to say about who wins the district title,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We have played in a lot of big games.
We are going to show up and get after it like we always do.”
Northwest opened the season with wins over St. Edmund (42-6), West St. Mary (42-14), North Vermilion (49-17) and False River Academy (56-14) before beginning disrict play with a 41-0 over Pine Prairie.
“They have been improving over the past couple of years,” Trosclair said of the Raiders. “They are very athletic, big and fast.
“Defensively they come at you with alot of different fronts and they are hard to deal with – maybe that is why they are winning by 25 points a game.”
The Bobcats have their own threats on offense including running back Avery Lee and quarterback Jaden Brasseaux.
Lee has 111 carries for 555 and six touchdowns so far this season.
Brasseaux has completed 40-of-66 passes for 542 yards including four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Dashawn Vigers (11 catches for 231 yards, 3 TDs) and Jordan Ledet (17 catches for 280 yards and 3 TDs) are the top two targets for Brasseaux.
“I like the way our guys are working and playing hard.” Trosclair said. “That is all you can ask from a football team.
“We try to do it the right way.”
In Northwest’s win over Pine Prairie, the Raiders finished with 279 yards rushing and another 115 yards through the air.
Northwest quarterback Terrel Guillory threw for two touchdowns and ran for another against the Panthers.
Matthew Rideau also scored twice and Caleb Dupuis added a punt return for a score in the win.
“They can throw the ball well,” Trosclair said. “They present problems for defenses because they also run the ball – they are a big play team.”
