Bobcats win on Senior Night

Christian Lejeune made the most of his first varsity start, allowing only one hit in a complete game victory as the Bobcats captured a 9-2 decision over the DeRidder High Dragons in Friday night baseball action at Bobcat Field.
The left-handed Lejeune dominated the Dragons through six innings, allowing only three base runners on two walks and an error. Lejeune lost his shutout and his no-hit bid in the seventh inning after Devin Jones reached on an error and scored on a double by Logan Myers. Myers later scored as a result of another error, but Lejeune struck out the final two batters he faced to end the game. He finished with eight strikeouts.
The Bobcats chased Dragons’ starter Matt Lestage after one inning. Scotty Bihm drew a walk, Wes Hebert singled and both scored on a double by Jake Sonnier. Myers came on to pitch at the start of the second inning.
The Bobcats began to pull away with a three-run fourth inning. A. P. Sonnier started the inning with a single and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Brennan Ashley, which was thrown away at first base. Kalum Fruge brought home both runs in a double. A single by Gunner Fontenot moved Fruge to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Lomas.
The Cats completed their scoring in the fifth with four runs. Hebert doubled to open the inning and Jake Sonnier was hit by a pitch. A. P. Sonnier doubled home a run before Scott Lafleur drew a walk. Taylor Hanks singled home one run and two more runs scored as Fontenot reached on an error.
Hebert, A. P. Sonnier, and Fontenot finished with two hits apiece to lead the Bobcat offense. Jake Sonnier and Fruge added two RBIs apiece for the Cats.
The Bobcats moved to 23-7 on the season. DeRidder fell to 23-10 with the loss.
Both the Dragons and the Bobcats are heading to the bi-district round of the Class 4A playoffs. Playoff pairings will be announced later this week.

EHS 11, Beau Chene 1
The Eunice High Bobcats banged out fifteen hits on their way to an 11-1 victory over the Beau Chene High Gators in District 4-4A action Thursday evening at Bobcat Field.
The victory improved the Bobcats’ season record to 22-7.
The win also gave the Cats a share of the 4-4A title as they finished district play a 10-2 mark to tie Rayne for first place.
The Gators took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Mason Oswald singled to score Taylor Plumb. Plumb had reached base on an error. Over the course of the next four innings, Eunice starting pitcher Scotty Bihm allowed only two additional hits.
He recorded five strikeouts and walked no one in five innings, improving his season record to 6-3.
The Bobcat defense gave Bihm great support by turning three double plays.
The Cats gave Bihm all the support he needed in the bottom of the first inning.
Andrew Lomas drew a walk, Bihm singled, and Jordon Comeaux singled home a run. Wes Hebert continued the inning with a run-scoring single before A. P. Sonnier doubled home the final two runs of the inning for a 4-1 lead.
The Cats added to their lead with a third-inning run. Comeaux doubled and scored on a single by Brennan Ashley. The Cats made it 8-0 with a three-run fourth.
Hebert had a two-run double and A. P. Sonnier added a RBI single.
Eunice High scored three runs in the fifth to end the game. Scott Lafleur opened the inning with a single and raced to third on a double by Gunner Fontenot. Lomas singled in a run and both Comeaux and Hebert drove home runs to make it 11-1.
Hebert and Comeaux had three hits apiece for the Bobcats. Hebert had four RBIs and Comeuax had two. A.P. Sonnier had two hits with three RBI.
