The Eunice High Bobcats rolled up 362 yards of offense on their way to a 45-14 victory over the Ville Platte High Bulldogs in the District 5-3A opener for both teams at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bulldogs capitalized on a high punt snap to take the early lead. The Bulldogs took possession at the Eunice 28 and took six plays to score a touchdown on a 4-yard run by Jashaun Doucet. The PAT run failed, but the Dogs enjoyed a 6-0 lead with 7:22 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcat offense quickly responded with a 56-yard, 4-play scoring drive of their own. Avery Lee had two carries for 11 yards before Georrein Dupre broke free for a 45-yard touchdown, with Lee running for the two-point conversion and an 8-6 lead.
Ville Platte put together a drive that started at their own 20 following the kickoff, but that drive ended with an interception by Lukas Deculus, who returned the pick 15 yards to the Eunice 40-yard line.
The Bobcats drove 60 yards in seven plays to score a touchdown on a 29 run by Dupre. Lee added the two-point conversion for a 16-6 lead.
The Bulldogs failed to make a first down on their ensuing possesion, with Eunice’s Cade Richard coming up with a sack of quarterback Doucet on a third-and-ten.
The Cats didn’t capitalize following the Bulldog punt, though, and Ville Platte would take advantage of another poor punt snap to take possession deep in Bobcat territory.
The Bulldogs took seven plays to score, with Anderson scoring on a 4-yard run. Anderson would add the two-point conversion to pull his team to within 16-14.
Again, the Bobcats responded with a scoring drive of their own, going 40 yards in four plays. The drive was capped by Dupre’s 7-yard run and Lee would again convert the two-point conversion to pull the Cats to a 24-14 lead with 4:25 left in the half.
The Bobcat defense would force a punt from the Bulldogs and the Bobcat offense would 49 yards in nine plays for a touchdown. Key plays were passes by Brasseaux to Ledet of 5, 8, and 28 to set up a 7-yard touchdown pass to Dupre. Dupre ran for the two points to put the Cats up 32-14 with 29.5 seconds left in the first half.
The Bulldogs put together a long drive to start the second half, but the Cats would hold them on a fourth-and-seven at the Eunice 16.
After holding the Bulldogs on yet another fourth down at the Bobcat 10, the Bobcats would put together a 90-yard drive which was capped by a 30-yard touchdown pass from Brasseaux to Seth Venable. Harold Fontenot kicked the PAT kick to put the Cats up 39-14. The Cats would later end the scoring on a 10-yard touchdown run by Trevin Ceasar.
Avery Lee led the Cats in rushing with 25 carries for 114 yards and Dupre added six carries for 99 yards. Brasseaux was six of 14 for 81 yards, with Ledet leading receivers with four receptions for 44 yards.
Anderson led Ville Platte in rushing yardage with 22 carries for 148 yards.
