Cormier hired to link EEDC with city

The city of Eunice has hired a new part-time employee to act as an administrator between the city and the Eunice Economic Development Committee.

Andrea Cormier, 34, of Eunice, said that she was shocked to discover that she was selected for the job.

“Being a business major at LSU Eunice, I think it’s a wonderful opportunity,” said Cormier. “Especially because it means that I can help the city that I grew up in and love.”

Don Reber, head of the EEDC, said that the announcement came at the start of their Thursday meeting last week.

“We made an announcement at the beginning of the meeting that the city has put on a new position, a part-time person, on the city payroll to support this committee,” said Reber. “She’ll be helping us organize and keep our notes from the meetings. Her job description is more secretarial in nature. She will also be a conduit to various media outlets. We’re glad to have her on board.”

Reber said that Cormier’s job is not a permanent position – which would be subject to renewal under a new administration. However, he said that he was hopeful that Eunice would make it a permanent position in the best interest of the community and an impending petrochemical boom in Southwest Louisiana.

Cormier hopes to bring organization to the EEDC while maintaining communication contacts with people, business and media. She said that one of her goals was to help attract new businesses to the area in an effort to retain graduates from high school and LSUE to stay in and involved in the community.

Cormier is a Eunice High School graduate, a current LSU Eunice student and a mother of a Eunice High School student.
