Alexis named the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week

After a week in which she hit for a .611 batting average and collected 12 RBIs with five home runs, LSU Eunice softball sophomore Carey Alexis has been named the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week.
The Lady Bengals (55-2) have now had four National Players of the Week this season (Brooklynn Clark, Emily Nolan, Taylor Boulet, Alexis) and have also had two National Pitcher of the Week selections (Raven Cole, Destin Vicknair).
Alexis and the LSU Eunice finished off the 2014 regular season with five wins last week, with Alexis going 11-for-18 at the plate with four doubles, 12 runs scored and those five home runs in addition to driving in the 12 RBIs. Four of her homers last week were two-run shots.
Overall, Alexis is hitting .434 so far this season with 28 RBIs and 31 runs scored. She has collected 14 doubles and nine home runs through the end of the regular season. She also has nine walks and has struck out only 14 this season in 106 official plate appearances.
Alexis and the Lady Bengals play in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament May 8-10, hosted at a site that is still to be determined in Mississippi. More information about the tournament's location, as well as the Lady Bengals' opponents, will be learned in the coming days.
