Bengals edge North Central Texas
LSU Eunice’s Jordan Romero singled and scored on a Zach LaFleur hit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Bengals to a 7-6 win over North Central Texas College Thursday night.
North Central grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Jose Perez doubled and scored on a double by Kyle Bottger.
NCT added a run in the top of the third when Perez singled and scored on a fielder’s choice.
The Bengals (7-4) closed the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning when Brennan Bozeman walked and touched home plate when Cade Stone doubled to deep right center field.
Austin Ingram blasted a grand slam to give the Lions a 5-1 advantage in the top of the fourth inning, but the Bengals responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Romero walked and scored on a double by Joe Trahan, who scored on a ground-out by Trey Caswell.
Will Watson singled to center and scored on a hit by Zach LaFleur.
LSU Eunice trailed 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth, but Bengal first baseman Watson singled and scored on a ground-out by Bozeman.
The Bengals tied the game when Caswell walked and raced home on a single to right by Mark Fontenot to give support to the LSU Eunice defense who held the Lions scoreless the final five innings.
Zach Hamilton earned the win as he struck out five and walked one in the last two innings.
Starter Mitch Sewald fanned five, walked three and allowed four earned runs on five hits.
Watson went 4-for-5 with two runs scored to lead the Bengals, while LaFleur went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.
The game originally scheduled for Sunday was moved to Thursday night because of the threat of bad weather over the weekend.
