Bengals swept by Delgado
NEW ORLEANS - The LSU Eunice baseball team tallied only five hits as they saw Delgado Community College take Saturday afternoon’s series finale by a 10-2 score as the Bengals were swept in the three-game road series.
Tyler Chapman led the Bengals (32-10) with two of their five total hits, adding an RBI, as David LaFleur’s lone hit was an RBI double, while Sam Walley (double) and Madison Nickens each collected a hit as well.
Delgado (33-9) finished with 11 hits, including five extra base hits – three of which were home runs.
LSU Eunice starter Ben Braymer allowed five hits and four runs while walking two batters in his 2 2/3 innings as he was saddled with his first loss of the season, while relievers Ben LeBlanc (2 innings, four runs, three earned runs) and Will Bacon (1 2/3 innings, two runs) combined to allow six hits and two walks as well.
Delgado took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with three hits, a walk and a hit batsman, highlighted by a two-run homer before the Bengals answered in the second inning when Chapman singled, stole second and scored on LaFleur’s RBI double down the right field line.
The hosts added a run in the third on a two-out, RBI single before extending the lead in the fourth inning on a three-run homer and adding another run in the fifth on a two-out Bengal error.
The afternoon’s final runs came in the seventh, when Delgado used a double followed by a two-run inside the park home run to cap the scoring.
LSU Eunice is back in action with a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at home against visiting Bossier parish Community College beginning at 4 p.m. with the second game to follow.
