Football season has plenty of exciting match-ups
High school football season begins this week and that means the best time of the year is here.
With that in mind, I picked several “must see” games for the upccoming season.
It is not meant to show that one game is more important than another – just games that raised my interest.
In Eunice, obviously Blue Jay and Bobcat fans are dedicated to their teams and they already marked their dates.
But for those who have freedom of choice, here are 10 top games to watch.
The opening week of the season has two new head coaches across the sidelines from each other when Sacred Heart of Ville Platte visits Iota.
Josh Harper took over the Trojans just a few weeks ago, while Josh Andrus was the Bulldogs’ offensive corrdinator last season.
In Week Two, the Bulldogs entertain the Blue Jays in what has been a historic series.
It could be a fun game to watch in a full stadium.
Week Three has the Notre Dame Pioneers hosting the Teurlings Catholic Rebels – an interesting match-up.
Week Four is the first home game for the Church Point Bears. After road games to Rayne, Iowa and Jennings, the Bears finally play in front of their fans against Jennings.
Week Five is homecoming week for Eunice High as the Bobcats take on the Rayne Wolves.
Week Six is the district opener for most of the area schools so take your pick on which game to watch.
Week Seven has Ville Platte at Port Barre or Northwest at Eunice which will be good games to watch – but it would be nice if the Tee Cotton Bowl would come back between Ville Platte and Sacred Heart.
Week Eight should be a thriller when Eunice travels to Church Point. This is always an exciting battle between two rival teams.
Week Nine is homecoming week for St. Edmund as the Blue Jays entertain North Central.
Week 10 has the Basile Bearcats visting St. Edmund in what could be for the District 5-1A title.
Add to the mix home games for LSU against McNeese, Auburn, Eastern Michigan, Florida, Western Kentucky, Arkansas and Texas A&M.
Or several trips to Cajun Field to watch Louisiana Lafayeete take on Northwestern State, Akron, Texas State, UL Monroe, New Mexico State and Troy.
Who knows, maybe once the real NFL season starts, the New Orleans Saints will win a close game.
