Much has been written about Louisiana’s chronic state budget deficit. It seems the $25 billion state governmental budget is short once again; and the upcoming special legislative session is being hyped as the solution we have long been promised to stop this recurring cycle of shortfalls.

With a new governor soon to take office in a state that is facing a massive government financial crisis, a litany of problems continues to mount. Higher education is on the ropes both financially and academically.

One of my army of nurses in my recent hospital stays came in while I was watching the news Tuesday. The story was a feature on Syrian refugees who have been taken in by a church in New Jersey.
She asked me what I thought about that.
