1 dead in stabbing, suspect questioned in Eunice (updated)
An ongoing feud has left one man dead in a stabbing at the Acadian Village apartments in Eunice and another under question at the Eunice Police Department,
The dead man was believed to have been stabbed three times, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
The victim was stabbed twice in the left arm and it appeared the fatal wound was to the left side and struck the heart, he said.
The victim was pronounced dead at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice.
He victim was identified as Haymen Douresseau Jr., 38, of Eunice
The suspect is identified as Joseph McKinley Guillory, 29, 515 B. Fuselier St., Eunice.
Gullory was being booked Friday evening on charges of manslaughter and illegal carrying of weapon, Fontenot said.
The weapon used was a spring-loaded switchblade type of knife.
Police were called about the stabbing at 4:29 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Fuselier Street.
“It apparently was an argument that started between the victim and the suspect,”
The victim was passing on foot in front of the apartment when the fight broke out.
Fontenot said. “It turned into a fight. The suspect pulled a knife and the victim was stabbed three times.”
The suspect lived at the apartments, Fontenot said.
The police chief was unsure where the victim lived.
The stabbing occurred outside and there are possible witnesses, Fontenot said.
“They knew each other, but there was no relation,” Fontenot said of the victim and suspect.
“The suspect is cooperating with the investigation,” he said.
Police investigators had not yet learned what started the argument, he said.
“It doesn’t appear to be drug related,” Fontenot said of the dispute.
Guillory will face a magistrate’s hearing Monday in Opelousas.
