13 warrants issued in check-kiting ring
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office has issued arrest warrants for 13 more people who are part of a counterfeit check ring that was operating across Acadiana.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said, “On May 3, 2016, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Detective Section obtained additional arrest warrants for additional suspects involved in the counterfeit check cashing ring.”
The sheriff’s office, along with law enforcement agencies across Acadiana have been investigating the counterfeit check cashing ring. The checks were being manufactured and cashed at local businesses defrauding the businesses out of thousands of dollars. So far the investigation has led to 11 other arrests and a loss of more than $30,000.
Major Eddie Thibodeaux, public information officer for the sheriff's office, said there are more counterfeit check ring suspects at large, and checks cashed by the ring are coming in weekly. Guidroz urged businesses to always demand a valid pictured ID and to obtain additional information not listed on the check before cashing it.
The following individuals are wanted by the sheriff's office, but the suspects have cashed checks throughout Acadiana: Cordy Brown, 100 block of Hideaway Road, Opelousas; David Wayne Sims Jason, 600 block of Laurent Street, Opelousas; Destiny Jenkins, 100 block of W. Peach Street, Eunice; Haileigh Brooks Carrier, 200 block of East Vine Street, Eunice; Hailey Nicole Lowery, 800 block of Beulah Street, Eunice; Helen Lacey Fontenot, 1400 block of Dudley Street, Eunice; Jacqueline Victoria Fuqua, 300 block of Cane Street, Eunice; Jerod Murphy Guillory, 100 block of College Road, Eunice; Justin Charles; 800 block of Paggo Street, Opelousas; Marcus Anthony Scott, 800 block of Beulah Street, Eunice; Rashawn Collier Murray, 300 block of South Aymond Street, Eunice; Rusty Jack, 2900 block of Veterans Memorial Hwy. 13, Mamou; Sparkle Core Lee Ethel Williams, 200 block of East Vine Street, Eunice; and Willie Woodfork IV, 700 block of North Foster Street, Opelousas.
