3 arrested in connection with home invasion (Updated)
Eunice police have arrested three suspects to a March 18 home invasion in the 400 block of Cotton Street.
There may be as many as nine people involved, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
“There are still more people to be interviewed,” he said. “There is more stuff to look at. They have been recovering some evidence. One of the victims had said there was a small black handgun with a laser. That was recovered yesterday when one of the arrests was made.”
Victims also reported an assault rifle was used. The assault rifle may have been an air gun that has been recovered.
“We are not sure that is the same as the victims reported in the home invasion,” he said.
Police also continue to investigate a March 2 home invasion in 400 block of Acadia Street, Lt. Richard Daigle said.
Three black males assaulted an 81-year-old man in the Acadia Street incident, he said. The victim suffered cuts in the attack, he said.
In the Cotton Street home invasion there are were two victims, both in their early 20s, he said.
Arrested Wednesday were:
—Juvenile, 16; home invasion, armed robbery, aggravated second degree battery, aggravated battery and criminal trespass;
—Juvenile, 15; home invasion, armed robbery, aggravated second degree battery, aggravated battery and criminal trespass; and
—Gemarid Joseph, 17, 550 Lewis St., Eunice; home invasion, armed robbery, aggravated second degree battery, aggravated battery and criminal trespass.
Last week police reported four men armed with pistols, shotguns and assault rifles invaded the Cotton Street home and robbed its occupants at about 1:15 a.m. March 18.
One of the four victims was injured, but refused medical treatment.
Officers learned that four black males entered the residence and took cash and cell phones from the victims, he said.
The victims were forced to lie face down and were tied during the robbery.
The suspects were wearing dark clothing and bandannas over their faces, he said.
Fontenot said three people arrested March 22 in connection with an armed robbery may provide links to at least one of the home invasions.
The men were arrested after a man was attacked around midnight near Brownie’s convenience store on West Maple Street.
The three Eunice men arrested for armed robbery are:
Barjona Simon Bell, 18, 110 Boudreaux St.; Jairus John Bell, 19, 110 Boudreaux St.; and Zechariah Hosea, 19, 411 Corn St.
Daigle said police are waiting for DNA evidence to be processed.
