Eunice Police put a damper on drug deals

By Harlan Kirgan Editor

A weekend shift of Eunice Police focused on drug activity and ended up arresting five people on drug charges.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said the shift responded to complaints about drug activity.
“They did it on their own,” Fontenot said, “I’m proud of them.”
The shift was headed by Lt. Michael Dunn, he said.
“They went out and took matters into their own hands,” Fontenot said.
It was a case of proactive policing, he said.
At 8:18 p.m. Friday police received a tip about drug activity in the 2000 block of West Magnolia that resulted in two arrests, Fontenot said.
An informant described a vehicle involved in what was believed to be a drug transaction, Fontenot said.
The vehicle was spotted on U.S. 190 near Rodney and the driver was not wearing a seat belt, which established probable cause to stop the vehicle, Fontenot said.
A police officer spotted a plastic bag that he believed contained marijuana and that later tested positive as marijuana, Fontenot said.
The driver, Derek Levi Gill, 21, 100 block of Mamie Street, Eunice, was arrested for possession of marijuana.
The stop lead police to obtain a search warrant for a residence in the 2000 block of West Magnolia, he said.
A search there resulted in the arrest of Eric Bradley Guillory, 28, 2000 block of West Magnolia Avenue, Eunice.
Guillory was charged with possession with intent to distribute, firearms in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, drug paraphernalia, controlled dangerous substance in the presence of juveniles, and possession of firearm by a felon.
Police found a 20 gauge shotgun in the residence.
Guillory had been convicted in 2009 of felony drug charge he said.
At about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police received a tip about drug activity at Fuselier and Acadia streets, Fontenot said.
An officer arrived and noticed two subjects leaning into a vehicle. The vehicle left and the two subjects on foot backed up and obstructed traffic, he said.
As the officer approached the pair, one of them, later identified as Deondre O. Doyle, 23, 700 block of Faris Street, Eunice, fled, Fontenot said.
Doyle was found under a residence, he said. Police also found a trail of drugs believed to be marijuana, a cell phone and a wallet with Doyle’s identification in it, he said.
Police found marijuana in the patrol car in which Doyle had been seated in his socks as he was stripped-search, Fontenot said.
Doyle as been charged with obstruction of public passage, resisting an officer, possession with intent to distribute, obstruction of justice, possession of controlled dangerous substance in drug-free zone, possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into penal facility.
At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, an officer on patrol in what Fontenot said is an area of drug activity spotted a vehicle making a right turn without using a turn signal, he said.
When the vehicle was stopped at Richard and Minerva, the officer observed a plastic bag containing what was believed to be marijuana, he said.
The driver did not have a driver’s license and appeared nervous, Fontenot said.
But the driver did give police permission to search the vehicle, which turned up the pot-laden plastic bag and a Remington 1911 .45-caliber pistol, Fontenot said.
Pistol’s chamber was unloaded and there was no magazine or ammunition, he said.
The stopped resulted in the arrest of Chaddick Demoine Senegal, 22, 400 block of North St. George, Eunice. Senegal is charged with no driver’s license, proper signal required, possession of marijuana 4th offense, possession of controlled dangerous substance in the presence of juvenile, possession of controlled dangerous substance in a drug-free zone and illegal possession of a firearm by felon.
Also arrested on drug-related charges were, on Friday, Salvador Bustos Jr., 20, 300 block of Juanita Street, Eunice, for possession of marijuana.
