Eunice woman accused of taking advantage of flooding situation to steal jewelry

A 57-year-old Eunice woman is charged with taking advantage of recent flooding to clean an 87-year-old woman’s house and at the same time helped herself to the woman’s jewelry, a Eunice Police Department arrest affidavit stated.
Cindy Sue Lejeune, 57, 1400 block of Gum Avenue, Eunice, is charged with felony theft of assets of person who is aged and misdemeanor theft that occurred on Aug. 20.
The 87-year-old woman reported to Eunice Detective Robert Brickley that on Aug. 23 she want to her residence on West Elm Avenue to check on repairs after flooding that displaced her and her husband.
She unsuccessfully looked for several items of valuable jewelry in her bedroom.
The woman said she asked Lejeune, who was doing some cleaning, about the jewelry and was told she did not know where the jewelry was located, the report stated.
The elderly woman asked Lejeune to leave here residence and not return, the report stated.
Missing were two gold rings valued at $1,000 each, one gold necklace with a heart-shaped pendant and diamonds valued at $1,500 and a broken gold chain valued at $500, according to the report.
The elderly woman said Lejeune knew about the jewelry in her jewelry box in her bedroom, the report stated.
Brickley went to Eunice City Pawn Shop, 331 East Laurel, and discovered that on Aug. 20 Lejeune sold two gold rings and a gold necklace for $110, the affidavit stated.
The victim identified the three items sold at the pawn shop as the missing jewelry, the report stated. The broken necklace remains missing.
