Negligent homicide charged in fatal motorcycle crash

A man who allegedly left his out-of-gas truck in the road has been charged with negligent homicide.

Marcus Amos has been arrested on negligent homicide charges in a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred October 10th on Kennerson Road, killing Cory Shawn Perry.
According to St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Captain Megan Vizena, “Shortly after 7 p.m. on October 10, 2013, a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Cory Shawn Perry of Opelousas, was traveling westbound on Kennerson Road when it struck a vehicle left abandoned in the travel lane of Kennerson Road.  The operator of the motorcycle struck a Mitsubishi pickup truck belonging to Marcus J. Amos.”
Vizena stated, “Our investigation revealed that Marcus Amos ran out of gasoline while traveling west on Kennerson Road. The truck was left parked in the roadway with no signs of any emergency lights or tail lights activated. Perry, the driver of the motorcycle, was traveling westbound on Kennerson Road when the motorcycle impacted the rear of the truck. Perry was later pronounced dead at the crash scene.”
“Minutes after the crash occurred, Amos fled the scene on foot, leaving Perry’s body in the roadway,” Vizena added.
Amos was arrested on charges of negligent homicide, failure to report an accident, driving under suspension, no insurance, expired vehicle registration and criminal mischief (filing a false police report).
