A Lafayette man who was stopped for using a cell phone in a school zone ended up being arrested in Eunice for home improvement fraud and felony theft, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
Thomas Fruge, 400 of the 100 block of Sandest Drive, was arrested Wednesday by Eunice police on a warrant issued March 4, 2011.
Fruge was stopped in Broussard for using a cell phone in a school zone, police said.
He was reportedly using the GPS feature on the phone when stopped, police said.
In February 2011, Fruge agreed to do repairs to storm doors and a shower at a Eunice residence and was paid $1,300 for materials and labor, Fontenot said.
When Fruge returned to do the work there was a dispute over the cost of the materials, Fontenot said.
The homeowner demanded to see receipts, which Fruge never produced, he said.
They homeowner and Fruge agreed to meet at a latter date, but Fruge never showed up, Fontenot said.
The was no written contract for the improvement, he said.
Police were unable to locate him and believed he lived in a motel.
There was a probation hold on Fruge from Iberia Parish and he faced a worth check charge in Ascension Parish, Deputy Chief Richard Daigle said.
