Police: Woman faces multiple battery charges after theft of feminine products
A 21-year-old Eunice woman, detained at Champagne’s grocery store for shoplifting personal lubricant, douche and a feminine wash, ended up being charged with two counts of aggravated battery, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
The woman was at Champagne’s with a man and when they left the store an alarm sounded, he said.
She was brought back into the store and placed the items valued at $9.43 on the register counter, he said.
She was asked to wait for police, but the woman and man left the store and got into a Chrysler 200 in the parking lot, he said. As they left the woman tried to push an employee out of the way, Fontenot said.
Two store employees tried to block the car, but were struck as the car left the parking lot, he said.
The store employees were not injured, Fontenot said.
The incident occurred at about 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police arrested the woman at 12:19 a.m. Thursday at West Peach Avenue and Eula Street.
The woman who was arrested, according to police records, is Shantel Richardson, 21, of the 300 block of Corn Street, Eunice. She is charged with two counts of aggravated battery, hit and run, theft of goods and simple battery.
The man with Richardson was not charged.
