Thieves thwarted

They attempted to steal from surplus vehicles

Eunice police interrupted someone who was in the process of stripping parts from surplus police vehicles near the Sittig Road fire station at about 3 a.m. Sunday.
Varden Guillory Sr., deputy chief, said police received a report of suspicious persons in the areas.
When officers arrived one person fled into a wooded area, but was never located.
Guillory said police found two wheels removed on an older unmarked police unit and a window was smashed on another police car.
The officers located the wheels and tools used by the thieves, he said.
The unmarked police car was left on the ground.
The surplus units are at the location awaiting transport to auction after all the equipment has been removed from them, he said.
