Wreck kills Lawtell man
Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers responded to two separate fatality crashes in Acadiana. The crashes claimed the lives of 40-year-old Christopher Richard of St. Martinville, and 34-year-old Al Fournier of Lawtell.
The first fatal crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on La. 328 at Juleau Champagne Road in St. Martin Parish. The initial crash investigation led troopers to determine 19-year-old Dedrick Senegal of Breaux Bridge was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry westbound on La. 328.
On-scene evidence indicated that Senegal’s vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and overturned numerous times. Senegal was not wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries. He was transported from the scene to Lafayette General Hospital.
The passenger, 40-year-old Christopher Richard of St. Martinville, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Richard sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by a representative from the St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office.
Investigators did obtain blood samples from Senegal as part of the on-going fatality investigation. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The second fatal crash occurred shortly after 11:15 p.m. on U.S. 167 at La. 182 in St. Landry Parish.
Troopers were able to determine that 34-year-old Al Fournier of Lawtell, was riding a 2009 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle eastbound on U.S. 167 and struck the rear of an eastbound 2005 Dodge Durango operated by 54-year-old Debra Aclis of Oakdale.
The initial impact caused the Durango to travel off of the roadway and strike a light pole. Troopers believe speed is a factor in the crash.
Fournier sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on scene by a St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office representative.
Aclis was not wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries. She was taken to a local hospital and treated for her injuries
