The City Lake received an aerial application of fertilizer to speed growth of algae and providing a better food base for game fish. Members of the Lake Commission are Eddie Brown, Elroy LeJeune, Alton Durand, Herbert Guillory and Albert Langley.

The Garbage Department quickly abandoned the new three-times-a-week residential pickups this month after a number of citizens complained. Some new routes were added for the Monday, Wednesday, Friday collections.

“There’s a heckuva war going on over there,” reports Coast Guard Boatswain Mate 3rd Class Terry Vidrine on his recent return for a tour in Viet Nam. He is a 1963 graduate of Eunice High.

James Donald Feucht, a 1965 graduate of St. Edmund High, has been promoted to lance corporal with the U.S. Marines. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Feucht and with the First Marine Division near Da Nang, Viet Nam.

Candace Faust, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Faust of Eunice, was named Miss St. Landry Parish in the first parish-wide beauty show. She will compete for the Miss Louisiana title. Runnerup was Sherry DeRouen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.J. DeRouen.

Bonnie Belleau was elected Queen of Aggie Day at USL. She was the 1966 valedictorian of Eunice High and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Belleau.

Eunice educators Dr. Gladys Peck and Edmond Saucier were selected as members of the reviewing committee for the new Comeaux High School in Lafayette.

J.C. Keller, general manager of the Queen and Liberty Theatres, announced plans to build a new Queen Cinema, occupying present quarters of the Queen Theatre and a vacant building next door.

The spotlight is on this region as U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy visits in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. Judge Edmund Reggie of Crowley was the first Louisiana public official to endorse RFK’s candidacy.

Mayor A.R. Picou commended Eunice citizens for admirable conduct during the tense times following the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Pelican State delegates chosen by St. Edmund are Paula Schatzle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schatzle; Debra Duplechin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duro Duplechin; Charles Feucht, son of Mr. and Mrs. Etienne Feucht; and Donavan Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Smith.

Eunice High Pelican State delegates are Rhonda Fink, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Roland Fink; Gail Fontenot, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Fontenot; Charles Andrews, son of Dr. and Mrs. C.J. Andrews; Russell Francois, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Francois; and Lolly Leger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Leger.

Richard Lowe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady B. Lowe, has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Virginia. The graduate history major finished Eunice High in the Class of 1960.

Louisiana State University at Eunice will hold its first official open house next month, according to Dean Anthony Mumphrey.

Reginald A. Keller has been appointed a representative in this vicinity for Southwestern Life Insurance. He is past president of the Jaycees, Lions and St. Edmund Booster Club.

James Ronald Moosa was appointed fire chief on the basis of a recommendation by the Civil Service Board. He succeeds Lee LeDoux who resigned last month.

Edward Smith, all-district end and senior class president at Eunice High, was named to the LHSAA all-star team. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Smith.

Gladney L. “Mike” Manuel, Jr. is new president of the Jaycees. August Courville is first vice president.

Voters rejected a 2.5-mill tax for operation and maintenance of the recreation department.
