Bobcats battle in Port Barre tourney

PORT BARRE – The Eunice High Bobcats won one and lost one in action Tuesday here at the Port Barre High School Basketball Round Robin Tournament.
Next action for the Cats will come in the Teurlings Catholic Tournament on Dec. 3rd.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats fell to the Carencro High Bears in their first game of the day, but returned later in the day to post a victory over the host Port Barre Red Devils.
The Bobcats fell behind in the opening quarter against Carencro, trailing 20-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bears extended their lead to 31-16 at the half.
The Bobcats did play better in the second half as they outscored the Bears by a 31-29, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their sluggish first half as Carencro posted a 60-47 victory.
Jacob Siner led the Bears in scoring with 18 points.
Araden Adams and Dandre Dudley added 17 and 16 points, respectively.
The Bobcats were led in scoring by Devon Freeman and Keithan Green with eight points apiece. Kevin Williams and Halen Jack chipped in with seven points apiece.
The Bobcats (1-2) were slow to shake off the first game loss as they fell behind to 14-6 to the Red Devils after one quarter.
The Cats picked up their defense in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 19-14 by halftime.
Led by three-point field goals by Williams and Malik Poullard the Cats outscored the Red Devils 12-6 to head into the fourth quarter with a 26-25 lead. With two more three-point field goals by Poullard and another by Williams, the Bobcats earned the victory by a 39-36 margin.
Williams led the scoring for the Cats against the Red Devils with 14 points. Poullard finished with nine points, all from beyond the 3-point arc. Jack added six points.
Livonia 49, Eunice 48
The Bobcats fell short by one point in their season opener on Monday in the Port Barre tournament.
Eunice held a 40-37 lead over the Livonia Wildcats heading into the fourth quarter, but were unable to hold the lead as the Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 12-8 to take a 49-48 victory.
After trailing 13-11 after one quarter, the Cats used a 15-4 second quarter advantage to lead 26-17 at the half.
The Wildcats closed the gap to three points with a 20-14 third quarter surge.
Kevin Williams led the balanced scoring for the Bobcats with 11 points. Halen Jack had 10 points for the Cats.
Ray Rougeau and Keithan Green added six points apiece, while Terryl Poullard chipped in with five points and Brandon Ndbueze had four.
Leading the Wildcats in scoring was Rod Hurst with 14 points. Livonia had a big advantage as they hit eight field goals from three-point range. The Bobcats did not have any field goals from long range.
Eunice also struggled from the free-throw line, making just ten of 23 charity attempts.
Livonia went to the line 12 times and converted five.

The Eunice High Bobcats dropped a 71-49 decision to the Cecilia High Bulldogs here Wednesday afternoon as they concluded play in the Port Barre High Round Robin Basketball Tournament.
A slow start offensively put the Bobcats in the hole early, trailing the Bulldogs 18-9 after one quarter. Cecilia used a 14-10 advantage in the second quarter to lead the Cats at the half by a 32-19 margin. The Bulldogs increased their lead thanks to a 21-9 third quarter before the Bobcats caught fire late to win the fourth quarter by a 21-18 margin.
Sophomore Malik Poullard led the Bobcats in scoring with 22 points. Poullard sank six field goals from beyond the 3-point arc and added two regular goals to achieve his total.
Fellow sophomore Kevin Williams added 11 points, nine of which came from three long-range field goals. Georrein Dupre, another sophomore, added eight points. Junior Terryl Poullard scored six points, hitting two three-point goals.
Jeremy Wiltz led Cecilia in scoring with 24 points. James Aguillard added 17 points and Ryan Mallet chipped in with 13 points.
The Bobcats will see their next action on Thursday in the Teurlings Catholic Tournament. Eunice High will face the winner of the game between host Teurlings and West St. Mary in a 6 p.m. start. If the Cats win Thursday they will play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A loss on Thursday would put the Cats playing at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
