Bobcats run past Indians, 6-2
LAKE CHARLES – The Eunice High Bobcats improved their District 4-4A record to 6-2 with a 15-4 victory over the Washington-Marion Chargin’ Indians here Thursday night at Legion Field.
Coach Scott Phillips’ Bobcats got off to a slow start, being retired in order in the top of the first inning by Indians’ starting pitcher Romente Lewis. In the home half of the first inning, the Indians scored twice off Eunice starter Alec Trosclair to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cats responded, though, with a four-run second inning. Wes Hebert walked and Alex Sonnier doubled to put runners at second and third with no outs. Hebert scored on a ground out by Caleb Taylor and Sonnier scored when Trosclair reached on an error. After courtesy runner Brandon Martel stole second base, Cade Richard singled and stole second base. Both scored on Gunner Fontenot’s single.
The Indians scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to 4-3, but Trosclair pitched out of difficulty to keep his team ahead. The senior hurler would allow only one hit over the next three innings before being relieved by Christian Taylor in the sixth. Trosclair (2-2) allowed five hits, two earned runs, and gave up two walks. He struck out six to earn the victory. Taylor allowed only one hit and fanned five in closing out the game over the final two innings.
The Bobcat offense, meanwhile, continued to add runs. A double by Hebert, a single by Sonnier, and a sacrifice fly by Christian Lejeune gave the Cats a run in the third. The Cats added two more in the fourth, highlighted by Logan Manuel’s RBI single.
The Cats added four more runs in the fifth for an 11-3 lead. Two-run singles by Fontenot and Manuel highlighted the scoring in the inning. The Cats added two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, with doubles off the bats of Hebert and Lejeune highlighting the scoring in the seventh.
Fontenot, Sonnier, and Lejeune topped the Bobcat offense with three hits apiece. Manuel, Hebert, and Caleb Taylor had two hits apiece.
The Cats were scheduled to travel back to Lake Charles on Friday to face LaGrange, weather permitting. The Cats are scheduled to travel to Rayne on Tuesday.
