Hebert, Taylor of Eunice High on All-State teams

It was a year of upsets in Class 3A baseball and softball, with No. 6 West Feliciana and No. 4 Kaplan taking home titles, respectively.
It’s easy to see why with the talent they had.
Gannon Achord of West Feliciana took home Coach of the Year honors in baseball, while Kaplan doubled up with both the Outstanding Player in Abby Trahan and the Coach of the Year in Shay Herpin.
Logan Savoy of South Beauregard was awarded Outstanding Player honors for baseball, for helping lead his team to a state championship game appearance with a 10-2 record, 1.75 earned run average and 102 strikeouts.
Trahan managed to top her impressive junior campaign in her final season at Kaplan, striking out 301 batters on her way to a 23-5 record. She only allowed 83 hits throughout the season and finished with a 0.73 ERA.
Shortstop Alexa Lege joined Trahan on the All-State team after hitting .475 on the season with eight home runs and 37 RBIs.
Achord helped lead West Feliciana to a state title with the help of senior pitcher Trey Morgan, who went 7-1 on the season, and junior Cody Trisler, who also went 7-1.
South Beauregard landed four players on the team and semifinalist Brusly had three.
Pitcher Evan Daigle (9-2), who struck out 78 batters in 72 innings while hitting seven home runs and stealing 32 bases, led Brusly. First baseman Ben Bergeron and outfielder Tod Gauthe also made the 3A squad for Brusly.
Third baseman Hayden Gunter, outfielder Jansen Fontenot and utility player Chance Clark were the other South Beauregard players selected.
North Vermilion, the No. 1 seed in softball heading into the playoffs, led the way with three players, pitcher Shelby Breaux, outfielder Elise Vincent and catcher Demi Boudreaux, making the All-State team.
Challenging Trahan for Outstanding Player honors was Parkview Baptist shortstop Nicky Dawson.
The LSU softball signee hit .658 on the season with five home runs, 36 RBIs and stole 58 bases and set a national record for triples in a career with 49. PBS outfielder Audrey Greely also made the softball squad.
