Possible playoff spot in play as Bobcats host Beau Chene

The Eunice High Bobcats host the Beau Chene High Gators to close out the regular season tonight at Bobcat Stadium.
Both teams are looking to stay alive for a state playoff shot with a victory. The Bobcats and the Gators have identical 3-6 overall records and 1-4 district marks. The winner of the contest could land a spot in the playoffs, depending on what occurs in other games.
Bobcat head coach Paul Trosclair feels that his team is ready to play a complete game in district. “We’ve been close, but it seems that when we’ve gotten momentum, we find a way to give it back.”
The Bobcats got close against Crowley High last week, cutting a Crowley lead to 27-21 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. But Gents’ running back Ty’Von Griffin put the game away with two touchdowns and the Crowley defense stiffened.
The Bobcat offense showed it could move the football against the Gents.
The Cats rushed for 121 yards and passed for a season-high 175 yards. Quarterback Alex Richard completed six of 11 pass attempts for 173 yards, with Travis Godfrey catching three for 111 yards, including a 71-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.
Junior running back Darin Serie added 46 yards on two receptions and also led the Cats in rushing with 78 yards in eight carries.
For the season, Richard has passed for 653 yards and five touchdowns. Richard has rushed for 321 yards with nine touchdowns.
Godfrey tops the receiving corps with 16 receptions for 339 yards. Senior Ty Ceaser leads the team in rushing with 454 yards in 92 attempts.
Beau Chene is coming off a 41-21 loss to the Rayne High Wolves. The Gators were tied 21-21 with the Wolves at the end of three quarters. But the Wolves scored three times in the fourth quarter to avoid the upset.
The Gators’ Savion Broussard gave his team an early 7-0 lead with a 52-yard run and finished the game with 91 yards on 17 carries. Broussard added a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Christian Cormier scored the other touchdown for the Gators with a 71-yard kick return. Cole Cormier, who had a 36-yard field goal in last year’s game against Eunice, was perfect on three PAT kicks against Rayne.
“Beau Chene shortens the game on offense, running down the play clock until the final seconds before snapping,” explained Coach Trosclair. “Defensively, they move around similar to what we do on defense.”
