99th birthday celebration

A 99th birthday celebration for Viola Latiolais Martel was held at Rocky’s Restaurant in Eunice on Saturday, Feb. 21. Seventy-six family members and guests attended.
Viola was born February 20,1916 in Breaux Bridge, and became the wife of Hubert Martel of Eunice in 1937. Hubert, a carpenter, died in 2000.
Viola attended school until eighth-grade. Viola is the fourth to oldest of 11 siblings with one sister living-Lucy Boudreaux of Humble, Texas. Her children include: Richard Martel of Conroe, Texas; Sylvia Martel Boyer of Eunice and Clarence Martel of Brunswick, Ga. Viola is the grandmother of 10, and has 23 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Viola is well known for her many years of quilting, as her daughter Sylvia added, “She has probably quilted at least 100 or maybe more. She has sold many and gave others as gifts.”
Viola is a life-time member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice.
