Area cowboys and cowgirls attend Youth Equine Day at Capitol
On March 19 the Louisiana State Senate adopted Senate Resolution No. 21 by Senator Elbert Lee Guillory, who spoke to a large group of youth during Youth Equine Day at the Capitol, and said,
“To commend the youth that proudly represent Louisiana in Equine exhibitions within the state and across the country and to declare March 19, 2014 as “Youth Equine Day at the Capitol”.
“Whereas, the horse industry is an important component of the agricultural economy of Louisiana and the buying and selling of horses, creation of jobs, expenditures on horses and equestrian events have an estimated economic impact of 2.5 billion dollars each year.
“Whereas youth from across the state have come together to bring awareness to the size and scope of this billion dollar industry and
“Whereas the Senate encourage these youth to continue to achieve equine accolades and to proudly represent the State of Louisiana.
“Therefore, Be it resolved that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the youth that proudly represent Louisiana in equine exhibition within the state and across the country has been duly commissioned “Honorary State Senators and is to be accorded all of the privileges entitled by virtue of this appointment this day March 19, 2014.
There were more than 200 attendees that participated in the Youth Equine Day event.
Individuals attending were from across the state of Louisiana that compete in the disciplines of English, Hunter Jumper, Goat tying, roping, Equitation, Dressage, pole bending, barrel racing, steer wrestling, halter, cutting, reining, breakaway roping, ranch sorting to name a few of the events that they competed in.
Teams present were from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, McNeese Rodeo Team, LSU Equestrian team, State High School Rodeo Team.
The youth in attendance have been State, National and/or World champions
This event was organized and coordinated by the Louisiana Equine Council and Senator Elbert Lee Guillory
