Author Moffett visits Central Middle School

Central Middle School welcomed local author Ashley Moffett for a day-long visit with sixth grade students. Moffett wrote a book entitled “The Orphans,” which depicts the tale of a Cyclops, and elf, and a girl who wouldn’t go away. CMS reading teacher Heather Verret invited Moffett to spend a day in the classroom with her sixth grade students where they integrated their own knowledge and ideas in formulating questions to ask the young author who wrote the book while in sixth grade herself. Principal Ranolviaun Landry added, “Moffett served as an inspiration to Central’s students as they chatted informally about the dynamics of her book including craft and structure, figurative meanings, word choice, author’s point of view, and the elements of the plot as they unfolded in the book. These activities were in alignment with Common Core Standards as students continue to prepare for upcoming state assessments. Moffett generously donated copies of her book to the Central Middle School Library.”
