Black History program highlighted at Highland Elementary

Highland Elementary held a Black History program Wednesday afternoon paying tribute to African Americans.
The theme of the event was “A Century of Black Life, History and Culture.”
As part of the program, Daisjdrion Hill, a second- grader, read the Black National Anthem.
Special guests Eunice High School band members, under the direction of Jeremy Murray, played a variety of musical selections during the program.
Interpretive readings and history of famous past and present African Americans were read by Highland teachers and staff. Some included: Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks, Caretta Scott King, Jackie Robinson, Sister Angela Davis, Michelle Obama, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Dr. Maya Angelou.
Some of Highland Elementary students performed a spiritual dance routine.
The event program committee included Keristian Edwards, Viola Bellard, Shelby Cormier, Naja Daigle, Cynthia Payne and Robbi Courville.
Principal Lorie LeDoux made closing remarks of the importance and recognition of Black History month and the contributions of famous African Americans to our country.
