A Children’s Theatre Workshop set Saturday

There will be a Children’s Theatre Workshop Saturday at the Eunice Community Art House, located at 213 S. Second Street.
Gabe Ortego will be the instructor, and two sessions will be offered. Ages 7-12 session will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. Ages 13-18 session will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be a registration fee of $25 and can be paid the morning or afternoon of the workshop. Call Gabe Ortego at 337-331-0806 to reserve your child’s spot before Saturday.
The workshop is designed for children and teenagers with all levels of theatre experience. Through several exercises and games, they will learn to use their imagination and the potential of what their creative minds are capable of achieving.
The workshop will be presented in a safe creative environment that will promote collaboration and support of fellow group members to explore their imaginations. By the end of the workshop, the participants will have learned the basic benchmarks of theatre as well as learned basic tools and thought processes of acting.
Ortego has nearly 17 years of theater experience under his belt. He is a member of Acadiana Repertory Theatre, based in Lafayette which works hand in hand with playwrights from various parts of the country promoting the creation of new work right here in Acadiana.
He has performed on stages all around the Acadiana area with various theatre companies including Opelousas Little Theatre, Broadway Bayou Productions, Abbey Players’, Omani Artiste, Cite Des Arte, ULL and Acadia Players’.
Ortego is the recipient of several Irving awards in various categories including Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Actor in a Musical. Some of his favorite acting credits include Mark in Cody Daigle’s Providence (EPT), Edna Turnblad in Hairspray (OLT), Gary/ Roger in Noises Off (OLT), Dr. Lyman Sanderson in Harvey (EPT), Nick in Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? and Leo in Ben Jolivet’s Fragile Thing Cracks (ART). He is currently serving as Vice President of the Eunice Players’ Theatre board of directors.
