Children craft Wishing Dolls during a workshop
Jerica Guillory, the creative force behind The Wishing Doll Project in Eunice, hosted a workshop at LSU Eunice Continuing Ed. classroom Tuesday for kids wishing to craft their own Wishing Doll.
There were plenty of supplies on hand for attendees to create their own Wishing Doll--glue, scissors, pieces of colorful fabric material, yarn, sticks and Popsicle sticks, ribbon, feathers, false eyelashes, string, pipe cleaners, straws, and much more-- all materials donated by public and businesses.
Guillory added, “The whole idea and concept of today’s session is for kids to be creative. And to create their own doll.”
The Wishing Doll project is a community-wide not-for-profit project. Organizations, business, and schools are “adopting” Wishing Dolls to help school needs and projects.
Wishing Dolls, started by Guillory back in February, is catching on in the community. Guillory wishes to include everyone in the community to become a part of the project.
Guillory said, “We are always in need of volunteers, fabric, materials. Every dollar donated to Wishing Dolls goes back to community and schools.
“We have an account at Barbara’s Nursery that you can stop by and just make a payment if you are able. Every dollar makes a difference.”
Guillory said that if organizations and schools are interested in helping the project move forward, those interested should contact her at 580-4100 or jericanamerica@hotmail.com or “like” The Wishing Doll Project: Eunice, Louisiana on Facebook for more information.
