EHS Ortego named Commended Student

Gabriel Ortego, a senior at Eunice High School, has been named Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Principal Mitchell Fontenot learned of this honor through a letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) which conducts the program.
Principal Fontenot added, “I believe it’s the first time a Eunice High School student receives a National Merit honor. According to my understanding, Gabriel is one of about 34,000 Commended students recognized throughout the nation. Commended Students place among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. (PSAT/NMSQT).
Ortego is an honor student holding currently a 3.8 GPA; and scored a 31 on the ACT test. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Science Club and Golf team.
Ortego is the son of Todd and Debbie Ortego of Eunice and plans after high school graduation to attend Tulane University in New Orleans to major in Aerospace Engineering.
