Eunice’s Maggie and her 7 pups Florida bound for new home

Maggie and Godeau

Magnolia (Maggie) and her seven pups will hopefully become part of a New Year’s gift to a Florida family.
Ada Godeau of Eunice, (Patasa), is well known for her efforts in finding homes for strays and lost animals. Godeau, an animal lover and a volunteer of Humane Society of Eunice for the past many years, has “homed” many cats, dogs, birds, and doves.
Godeaus’ daughter Marie Miller of Clewiston, Florida, is making plans to find a home for Mommy Maggie and her pups in her hometown.
According to Godeau, Maggie may be a dachshund and terrier mix, was found in early October wandering through a rice field nearby Godeau’s home.
Godeau came across the small blonde-colored dog and followed her into the edge of the field, calling her to come near. She came shyly to Godeau, and Godeau brought her to her home.
Godeau said, “At this point, she did not appear pregnant, but in the following weeks, it was apparent that she was expecting.”
Godeau’s home is home for many dogs, cats and birds, however, she added, “She fit right in with the other dogs and cats at home. She did not show signs of aggression or hostility toward the others.”
Godeau first gave the dog the name of “Blondie,” because of her color, however, soon later her daughter changed her name to Magnolia, or short, “Maggie.”
“My daughter is just like me, as she is an animal lover, and she takes in strays. She names her dogs and cats with Cajun heritage names. So Blondie did not stay long. Her name is Maggie!” said Godeau.
Godeau is unsure of the age of Maggie. Maggie gave birth to a litter of seven puppies on Nov. 21. Maggie has had her first round of rabies shot and her pups have all had their first round of worming.
Godeau’s daughter Marie is making plans to arrive in Eunice for a visit with her mother on Dec. 23 and will leave with Maggie and her pups on Dec. 28 back to her hometown.
Miller will have the help of her friend Carol Bachmann who works for the Pineallas County Sheriff’s department to assist in the placement of Maggie and her pups. She said, “Carol’s office has some type of internal employee trading post and they have ‘re-homed’ several dogs from my area through this system. I’m hoping this will work for Maggie and her pups.”
Miller says that Carol will take care of “Maggie and her family,” by taking them to the veternarian, having all shots and medications needed and required.
