Eunice High School recognizes top students at Academic Excellence Awards

Eunice High School held its annual Academic Excellence Program Thursday morning inside the Auditorium.
Many awards, honors, recognitions were given to students.
The Eunice High Senior Hall of Fame include: Courtney Ceasar, Shelby Fontenot, Alayna Hebert, Angel Lewis, Kaliee Lyons, Kate McLemore, Skylar Ned, Manjot Singh, Jacob Sonnier, and Kristi Thibodeaux.
The ACE Letterman students were recognized by Principal Mitch Fontenot.
Academic Lettering requirements are, Eunice High School in conjunction with it’s A. C. E. program (Academics Count at E. H. S.), offers its students the opportunity to earn a letterman jacket in academics.
In order to qualify for an academic letter, the student must be enrolled in Eunice High School’s Academic Curriculum for Excellence (A. C. E.).
The student must have completed at least 5 semesters of the A. C. E. program (3 of which must be at Eunice High) and must have earned a minimum cumulative 3.3 G.P.A. in this specific college prep curriculum.
A student, therefore, has four opportunities to earn an academic letter before he graduates, at the end of each fall or spring semester during his/her junior or senior year. Once a student letters in academics, he/she is then required to maintain the necessary academic requirements and continue to be enrolled in the A.C.E. program.
Senior ACE Letterman are: Stephanie Castille, Sheariah Bell, Addie Field, Courtney Ceasar, Kate McLemore, Kaliee Lyons, Kristi Thibodeaux, Breann Gotreaux, Sashanique Guidry, Savannah Manuel, Ashley Laramore, Sadie Chatman, Shelby Fontenot, Jacob Sonnier, Matthew Pitre, Joshua LeDoux, Manjot Singh, Sadie West, Dylan Bertrand, Gabriel Ortego, Alayna Hebert and Carlee Myers.
Junior ACE Letterman students include: Derek Ardoin, Matthew Brown, Kari Castille, Macy Ceasar, Kelsey Clavier, Kiersten Darbonne, Logan Dischler, Taylor Gaspard, D’ondre Goodley, Wesley Guillory, Brooke Jones, Mckenzie Manuel, Sean Manuel, Kylie Miller, Heidi Pitre, Dylan Reed, Breyana Robinson, Nicholas Seilhan, Ezolia Slaughter, Alexander Sonnier, Layni Trosclair, Jacob Vidrine, Lauren Vidrine and Trinion Winbush.
Senior and Junior National Honor Society members were honored. Senior NHS members include: Sadie Chatman, Sheariah Bell, Courtney Ceasar, Kaliee Lyons, Kristi Thibodeaux, Breann Gotreaux, Ashley Laramore, Shelby Fontenot, Jacob Sonnier, Joshua LeDoux, Manjot Singh, Sadie West, Gabriel Ortego, and Carlee Myers.
Junior National Honor Society students are: Derek Ardoin, Matthew Brown, Macy Ceasar, Kelsey Clavier, Kiersten Darbonne, Logan Dischler, De’ondre Goodley, Wesley Guillory, Brooke Jones, Kylie Miller, Heidi Pitre, Dylan Reed, Alexander Sonnier, Layni Trosclair, Jacob Vidrine, Lauren Vidrine, and Trinion Winbush.
To be eligible for National Honor Society, a student must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA in their core courses. Students in NHS must also perform eight hours of tutoring service a year.
Outstanding Vocational Awards presented by ECTEC Principal Kristine Joubert were given to Oil & Gas production- Scott Lafleur and Kalum Fruge, Welding-Kalum Fruge, Nursing-Briana Jordan, Automotive Technology-Bryce Fontenot, Wood Technology-Valentin Enriquez and Clarence Malveaux, Carpentry-Tommy Wheeler and Culinary-Kelsey Fontenot and Carrie Soileau.
The W.O.W. U.S. History Award representative Evelyn Stringer presented the recipient of the U.S. History award which is chosen by the Social Studies department based on rally results and a comprehensive History test given to all “A– average” American History students. The student that showed the greatest overall achievement receives this award. This year’s recipient is Lauren Vidrine.
Eunice High School students participated in the Southwest Louisiana District Rally held at LSU Eunice. Fifteen of them placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their area of testing.
These students placed first in their respective category and by doing so received a $50 scholarship per year for two years: Biology II-Dylan Reed, Calculus-Manjot Goldie Singh, English II-Camron Mire and Fine Arts-Jacob Sonnier.
These students placed second in their respective category: English IV-Keonna Clark, Financial Math-Clarence Malveaux, Geometry-Gage Alleman, U.S. History-Lauren Vidrine, and World Geography-Jillian Johnson.
These students placed third in their respective category: Advanced Math: Functions And Statistics-Kylie Miller, Advanced Math: Pre Calculus-Angel Lewis, Algebra I-Katlyn Joubert, French I-Ajyh Johnson, French II-Kelsey Greene and Journalism-Kameron Darbonne
Parish Math Rally Winners were honored. These students participated in the St. Landry Parish Math Rally. They competed against students from the other high schools in the parish. Geometry-first place, Camron Mire, Advanced Math-third place, Lauren Vidrine, Calculus-second place, Manjot Goldie Singh.
The Outstanding Junior award was given to an outstanding junior at Eunice High. The Olan Miller Memorial plaque was donated by the 1961 graduating class to recognize an outstanding junior student for service, leadership, and scholarship. The recipient is voted on by the entire junior class and the faculty. This year’s recipient went to Heidi Pitre.
Student competed at the Tri-Parish Foreign Language Festival at LSU Eunice. The following students represented Eunice High: French II Prose: Kaliee Lyons-Superior, Mikayla May-Superior, Manjot Singh-Superior, French II Poetry: Hali Jack -Superior
The Art Award recipient was recognized. The following student demonstrated the willingness to learn and the diligence to complete all art projects no matter what the difficulty was. This year’s recipient of the Turning Point Art Award is Tonekia Freeman
2014 Eunice High Boys and Girls State delegates were recognized. These students represented Eunice High School on the LSU campus for a week during the summer as delegates of boys state and girls state. They are: Kathryn Arnaud and Alexander Sonnier
The Trail Blazer at Eunice High was honored. Every summer, a workshop is held to educate young leaders about the financial aid process available to high school students. Representing EHS last summer on the Northwestern State University campus was William Oglesby.
Ranking of the Top Twenty graduates were recognized by Principal Mitchell Fontenot.

Historian is Gabe Ortego, Salutatorians are Angel Lewis, Kaliee Lyons, and Jake Sonnier; and Valedictorian is Manjot “Goldie” Singh.
