Eunice teen pitches book to Hollywood reps in Las Vegas

Ashley Moffett

Ashley Moffett, 15- year-old homeschooler from Eunice, has recently returned from pitching her new book “The Orphans” to Hollywood representatives at the most recent Book to Screen PitchFest event in Las Vegas, Nev.
Moffett, accompanied by her parents the Rev.Tim and Susan Moffett of Eunice, was one of 120 authors to attend the two-day event held at the Monte Carlo Resort.
The event featured insights into building a pitch by Hollywood writer and producer Bob Kosberg (known as the “King of the Pitch”). Then each participant was given the opportunity to practice and refine their pitch with a coach before presenting their two-minute pitches one-on-one with 20 different Hollywood representatives.
It could be some time before Moffett hears if any of the representatives are interested in taking her story from the page to the screen. Regardless of the outcome the young author considered the experience a great success.
Moffett said, “I thought my pitching went well. Almost all of the representatives asked questions, so I hope that means they had some interest. All of the people seemed so much nicer than what I had expected. I was pleasantly surprised!”
Companies represented were the power players behind movies series such as Rush Hour, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Last of the Mohicans, Ace Ventura, Frozen, The King’s Speech, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and The Muppets.
Television series represented included Psych, American Idol, and Man Vs. Food. “With the exponential growth of television channels and content providers such as Netflix and Amazon, Hollywood is always looking for new stories and fresh ideas to fill each day of programming” said event coordinator Keith Ogorek, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Author Solutions.
Moffett, who has long desired to be a writer, says “The Orphans” began as a simple idea when she got her first computer. Moffett added, “The only thing I used it for was writing. Instead of watching TV every night, I would go in my room and write another chapter. Day after day, chapter after chapter, a novel formed.”
Currently her book “The Orphans: A Cyclops, an Elf, and a Girl Who Wouldn’t Go Away” is available at Amazon.com and BN.com.
Additional information about the book is available at www.theorphansbook.com.
While she waits to hear from Hollywood, Moffett is already working on her next novel.
