On March 8 Eunice High School Concert Band earned its first Sweepstakes award (all superior ratings on stage and in sight reading) in school history at the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) District III Concert Band Assessment, under Band director Trent Gaspard.
A first-year teacher, and band director, Gaspard added, “These kids truly worked hard to bring a good name to their school and their community. “I’ve never seen a group of students so excited for their accomplishment. It was definitely well deserved for all the hard work they put in.”
With the sweepstakes trophy comes the qualification for LMEA State Concert Band Assessment. “The dates of state concert performance is most likely April 19-22 at the Lake Charles Civic Center, “ said Gaspard.
Gaspard says, “I’m very excited for this group. The hard work doesn’t stop here and we’re hoping to put in a good showing at State Assessment for the town of Eunice and Eunice High School.”
Principal at Eunice High, Mitch Fontenot is pleased with the high school band’s accomplishment, and added, “We are so excited about the accomplishment of our band. It’s been a very long time since our band has brought home a superior rating. It shows that the dedication and hard work of Mr. Gaspard and our students eventually pays off. We are so proud of Eunice High School’s Band.”
Gaspard is a 2006 graduate of Acadiana High School and a 2015 UL of Lafayette graduate, where he earned a degree in instrumental music education.
