Group visits German Heritage Museum in Roberts Cove

A stop at German Heritage Museum in Roberts Cove

On July 17, approximately 50 people from Opelousas and Ville Plate visited the German Heritage Museum in Roberts Cove. The visitors were Council on Aging groups traveling under the direction of Alice Lewis of St. Landry Parish and Janice Fontenot of Evangeline Parish. Young museum volunteer Dakota Sikat, son of Museum Secretary Marietta L. Sikat, and Mary Ann Leonards gave a presentation about the history of the Roberts Cove community, and Museum Curator Josie Thevis accompanied the visitors to the St. Leo IV church grounds and the little historical Pilgrimage Chapel. The museum volunteers also served the visitors sugar cookies or, as they are called in German, “zucker platzchen.”
