Jumonville and Reed among the debutantes at George Washington Ball

The Galvez Chapter Daughter of the Revolution and the Attakapas Chapter Sons of the American Revolution presented young patriots and debutantes at this year’s 55th George Washington Ball.
The ball was held on March 15 at The Petroleum Club of Lafayette. Vivid shades of red, white and blue highlighted the celebration. The theme of the occasion was the Battle of New Orleans.
Guest speaker was Ed Roy. Chairperson was Mrs. Archibald Hill, IV, Mrs. Stuart R. Averitt, Regent of Galvez Chapter, was one of many other high-profile individuals who participated in the extravaganza.
Debutantes presented and honored were Miss Abigail Elise Jumonville and Miss Phala Grace Reed, granddaughters of Johnny and Alma Reed of Eunice.
Miss Abigail Elise Jumonville, daughter of Joseph N. and Valerie R. Jumonville, attends Comeaux High School and University of Louisiana at Lafayette, as part of a duel enrollment. She is a member of the Comeaux varsity softball team, Krewe of Agustus and a four year-participant in the Comeaux High Arts Academy.
Her Mother Valerie Reed and Aunt Camille Reed were former debutantes in the George Washington Ball.
Her ancestors are Victor Richard of the Galvez Militia Louisiana, and Captain Thomas Key of the 96th District Regiment from South Carolina. Abigail’s sponsor was Alma Brunson Reed of Opelousas Chapter LSDAR.
Miss Phala Grace Reed, daughter of Sean Reed and Phala Lea Patton Reed, attends James Madison High School in Alabama. She is a member of the Alabama youth soccer team.
Phala’s aunts Valerie and Camille Reed, were former debutantes in the George Washington Ball.
Her revolutionary ancestors are Victor Richard, Galvez Militia in Louisiana, Captain Thomas Key and Col. LeRoy Hammonds, 96th District Regiment of South Carolina, and she was sponsored by Alma Brunson Reed of Eunice, her grandmother. Mrs. Reed belongs to the Opelousas Chapter LSDAR.
