NAUW Eunice branch members sponsor October service projects
Members of the Eunice Branch of the National Association of University Women sponsored two projects in October.
October is Clergy Month and members took the time to recognize ministers, for their time and energy in helping people in the community.
Two ministers were singled out for recognition, the Rev. Lloyd H. Antoine, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church in Vidrine, and the Rev. Allen Ben, pastor of New Zion Baptist Church in Eunice.
These ministers have been instrumental in helping members of the organization in many of their programs and projects. The NAUW is committed to recognizing other ministers in years to come for their contributions as well. The members realize that ministers are not “thanked” outside of doing their job as a minister for what they do.
Attending clergy special services this year were President Denise W. Antoine and Lelia B. Adams of St. Luke Baptist Church.
The second project of NAUW during the month of October was recognition of Breast Cancer Month. The members from Zeta Amicae of Opelousas and Chat-A-While Civic and Social walked in a local neighborhood on Oct. 23. There were about 20 participants. After the awareness walk, the members gathered at the home of Chiquita Thomas. They listened to a testimony given by Loritha Harris, a breast cancer survivor and enjoyed refreshments.
The group was led by Antoine, and auxiliary policeman. Participating in the breast cancer awareness walk were, Lena Ledet, Stephanie Prudhomme, Chiquita Thomas, Betty Allison, Lee Edwards, Quintella Gallien, Loritha Harris, Claudette Castille, Denise Antoine, Dorothy Fruge, Danetta Wade, Meriva Fontenot, Carolyn Baldwin, Patricia Harrison, Nicky Harrison and Laura Balthazar, Ardessie Francois, twins Patricia Thibodeaux and Roman Thibodeaux.
