"Other Desert Cities' opens 46th season of Eunice Players' Theatre

Rehearsals are underway as the Eunice Players’ Theatre opens its 46th season with “Other Desert Cities”, a two-act serio-comedy written by Jon Robin Baitz.
This intriguing play revolves around family secrets and the lengths to which parents go to protect their children.
The play’s events occur on Christmas Eve 2004, when the family of Lyman and Polly Wyeth gather at their home in Palm Springs, California.
Their daughter, Brooke, returns home after six years and joins her brother, Trip, and Aunt Silda, to celebrate more than Christmas.
Brooke announces that she is about to publish a book, a memoir dredging up a pivotal and life-changing event in the family’s history – an event that revolves around her late brother, Henry. Conservative and liberal ideals clash making conversations simultaneously intense and strikingly funny.
Joshua Carriere and Jody L Powell are handling co-directing duties.
Leading the Wyeth family is Lyman, a former Hollywood actor, GOP chair, and Ambassador. He is played by Vincent P. Barras of Lafayette, whose work has been seen in Eunice in “Tuesdays With Morrie”, “On Golden Pond” and “A Nice Family Gathering”; in Lafayette in “Urinetown”, “Kaleidoscope”, and “Fragile Thing Cracks” in Lafayette, and most recently, in New Iberia in “The Drowsy Chaperone”.
Cindy Pitre of Opelousas plays Lyman’s wife, Polly Wyeth, a former screenwriter, a dear friend of Nancy Reagan, and a mother fiercely protective of her husband and children.
Cindy brings to the stage a list of acting credits that includes roles in “Doubt”, “Steel Magnolias”, “The Lion in Winter”, and most recently, “M*A*S*H” at Opelousas Little Theatre. As a teacher of theatre arts at Opelousas Catholic High School, Cindy has directed over 25 student productions.
Brooke Wyeth is their liberal daughter, who has escaped to the east coast where she is a novelist who struggles with the disappearance of her brother, Henry, and the story of him that she never understood. This character is aptly played by Kayla Petitjean of Lafayette who has owned roles in “Urinetown” in Lafayette and “Blithe Spirit” and “Move Over Mrs. Markham” in Abbeville.
Travis Fontenot of Ville Platte plays the role of Trip, a bright and funny young man who followed in his parents’ footsteps by becoming a TV producer.
Travis was seen on the EPT stage in “Camelot”, and on the Opelousas Little Theatre stage in “Macbeth”, “God’s Favorite”, and “Jekyll & Hyde”. He earned a degree in Theatre: Performance and Directing from Northwestern State University. He is a founding member of Troupe d’Evangeline in Ville Platte.
Jody L. Powell of Eunice plays Silda Grauman, Polly’s sister and former writing partner, who is now a recovering alcoholic, and who had a pivotal role in Henry’s story.
Jody has been involved with EPT for 37 years, primarily as director, actor, and set designer.
She was most recently seen on the EPT stage in “On Golden Pond” and “The Subject Was Roses”, and she directed last year’s “The Diary of Anne Frank”. She is also involved with several theatre companies in Lafayette.
