Scholarships given during St. Edmund High School Senior class night

St. Edmund High School held its Senior Awards Night May 19 where seniors received academic awards, scholarships, honors and recognition.
The program began with the traditional school’s “Passing of the Candle,” with the senior class president Caroline Fontenot.
Each year the passing of the candle plays a very important part in the ceremony.
Fontenot explained, “We, the seniors of 2016, give to you juniors our light. This is the light of knowledge, leadership, and most importantly the light of Christ.
“Carry it proudly because it lights the way for those who come after you. You are the new leaders of St. Edmund Catholic High School. Hold your light high, guard it carefully because it symbolizes both the joy and the responsibility of being the seniors of 2017.
Recognition of honor graduates, who have maintained an overall weighted/honors GPA of 3.5 and above included: valedictorian Victoria McGee and salutatorian Dylan Bieber.
Other honor students are: Philippe Aguillard, Nicole Bertrand, Heidi Bieber, Abigail Brown, Cullen Brown, Shelbi Faul, Blakelyn Feucht, Logan Fontenot, John Hansen Fruge, Lauren Hannon, Patricia Hull, Kasey LaFleur, Alex Marcantel, Lillian Moreau, Brianna Naquin, Morgan Ruppert, Hunter Thibodeaux, Sydney Thibodeaux, Alison Turk, and Anne Vezinat.
Earning an unweighted GPA of a 3.5 or above is Drake Brunet.
The United Blood Services Red Cord Heroes graduating with honors is designed to recognize students that help their community by donating blood during their senior year.
Any student who donates blood twice within their senior year is eligible to receive a red cord. The following students earned a red cord: Heidi Bieber, John Hansen Fruge, Gabrielle Heinen, Kasey LaFleur, Dana LeJeune, Alex Marcantel and Hunter Thibodeaux.
The following students are those recognized by St. Edmund for scoring a 22 or higher on ACT: Philippe Aguillard, Jacob Cole Bergeron, Nicole Bertrand, Dylan Bieber, Heidi Bieber, Abigail Brown, Cullen Brown, Drake Brunet, Caroline Fontenot, Logan Fontenot, John Hansen Fruge, Patricia Hull, Alex Marcantel, Victoria McGee, Lillian Moreau, Brianna Naquin, Morgan Ruppert, Hunter Thibodeaux, Sydney Thibodeaux and Anne Vezinat.
Earning a composite score of 30 or above on the ACT was Sydney Thibodeaux. She was awarded a membership to the Saint Thomas Aquinas Society.
John Hansen Fruge was honored with a plaque of recognition for service and leadership as Student Council president.
Caroline Fontenot was presented an award of recognition for serving as president of the senior class.
The Campus Apostolate Plaque of Recognition for leadership as Campus Apostolate Team President was presented to Heidi Bieber.
Sydney Thibodeaux was honored with the National Honor Society award as she served the role of president.
Brianna Naquin was honored for her role as yearbook editor.
Students were presented with medals of recognition for having the highest cumulative average in different subject areas.

The Religion Award is given to a male and female student who have demonstrated and upheld the Christian values of faith. This years’ recipients are Dylan Bieber and Heidi Bieber.
These student participated in and placed both in District Literary Rally and State Literary Rally.
In the District Literary Rally, first place winners received a $50 per year LSUE scholarship.
The 2016 District Literary Rally winners are: Dylan Bieber, first place in world history, $50 per year; Cullen Brown, first place in physics, $50 per year; John Hansen Fruge, first place in journalism, $50 per year; Victoria McGee, first place in English IV, $50 per year; Morgan Ruppert, first place in fine arts survey, $50 per year; Sydney Thibodeaux, first place in advanced math- pre calculus, $50 per year.
2015 District Literary Rally winners included: Dylan Bieber, first place in U.S. history, $50 per year; John Knirk, first place in business computer applications, $50 per year; Sydney Thibodeaux, first place in Algebra II, $50 per year.
2014 District Literary Rally Winners were: Victoria McGee, first place in English II, $50 per year; Hunter Thibodeaux, first place in Spanish I $50 per year; Sydney Thibodeaux, first place in geometry, $50 per year.
In State Literary Rally, students who placed first received a gold medal, second place received a silver medal, and third place received a bronze medal.
The 2016 State Literary Rally winners are Dylan Bieber, first place in world history; and John Hansen Fruge, third place in journalism.
The Amazing Grace Spirit Stick Award was established in memory of Emma Grace Duplechin. She was given the first Spirit Stick Award at graduation of the 1969 class. She wasn’t even a student. However, the students considered her part of their class. She served as class mother for 12 years; chaperoned class gatherings, helped build floats, baked cookies, brought May flowers, decorated the church, and any other chore that helped support the class and the school.
This award is presented to the student who best exemplifies the St. Edmund Blue Jay Spirit, is well-rounded, participates in school functions and programs, and is willing to be a future ambassador for the school. The recipient of the Amazing Grace Spirit Stick Award and scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is Victoria McGee.
The Rodney Edmund Landreneau Jr. M.D. Memorial Award has been established to honor a senior who has demonstrated love, compassion, dedication, and service to our community. In addition, the senior must have performed well in foreign Language, history, and science, and participated in athletics. This year’s recipient is Cullen Brown.
The Ross Andrus Memorial Scholarship has been established to assist a deserving student who will be attending a technical college. Luke LaFleur received the scholarship of $1,000 in Memory of Ross Andrus, St. Edmund Class of 2008.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court presented an award and a scholarship, given by the Louisiana State Court of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. In the photo division of the Louisiana State Court of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas contest, Brianna Naquin, placed third and received an award of $10. The Diocese of Lafayette scholarship is awarded to John Hansen Fruge in the amount of $200.
The Knights of Columbus Award Catholic Youth Leadership Award in the amount of $200 went to Victoria McGee.
The Woodman of the World Award American History Award is given to the student who has the highest average in American history. Dylan Bieber is the recipient of this award.
The VFW Post 8971 presented a VFW Scholarship award of $1,000 this year to a deserving student, Victoria McGee.
Eunice Jr. Auxiliary Scholarship of $250 went to Sydney Thibodeaux and two Sirius Technology scholarships, valued at each $1,500, were presented. The first scholarship is the Stephanie Vidrine Memorial Scholarship, which is given to a student interested in pursuing an education in the medical field, especially in the area of pediatrics. This year’s award went to Logan Fontenot.
The second Sirius Technologies scholarship, is given to a student interested in pursuing an education in the technology field, which could include engineering, computers, or other technical fields. This year’s award recipient was Sydney Thibodeaux.
The 2016 Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau scholarship in the amount of $300 went to Heidi Bieber.
The St. Edmund Academic Booster Club presented scholarships in the amount of $250 each to Victoria McGee as the valedictorian and to Dylan Bieber as the salutatorian of the Class of 2016.
The Eunice Kiwanis Club scholarships in the amount of $250 each went to Victoria McGee and Brianna Naquin.
The St. Landry Parish Hospital Service District scholarships are given to two students who plan to pursue careers in the field of medicine in the amount of $500 for each student. This year, these awards went to Shelbi Faul and Lillian Moreau.
The Bayou Des Cannes Water System Glen Mentel Scholarship Award in the amount of $800 went to Adrienne Bergeaux.
The Captain Jim Smith Award, a $200 cash award given by John and Connie Baham, went to Gabrielle Heinen.
The Tri-Parish Bank of Eunice awards are presented to valedictorian, Victoria McGee in the amount of $150, and to our salutatorian, Dylan Bieber in the amount of $100.
The Jeff Davis Bank of Eunice scholarship in the amount of $400 was presented to Alex Marcantel.
The Eunice Rotary Club two Scholarships, each in the amount of $500, which is sent to directly to LSUE to be used as a credit in the bookstore, went to Adrienne Bergeaux and Heidi Bieber.
The Modern Woodman of America Fraternal Scholarship in the amount of $10,000 went to Sydney Thibodeaux.
The VFW Voice of Democracy Award in the amount of $50 went to Victoria McGee.
The Mire Branch Water Department Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 went to Shelbi Faul.
The Morrow, Morrow, Ryan, and Bassett scholarships went to two deserving students. Each student will receive a $2,500 scholarship. The recipients are Victoria McGee and Sydney Thibodeaux.
LSUE award scholarships were awarded to many students. These scholarships have been made possible through private donors and/or institutional funds:
Philippe Aguillard, Golden Award Scholarship of $500;
Jacob Cole Bergeron, Golden Award Scholarship of $500;
Heidi Bieber, JD Bank Scholarship and $2,000.
Eunice Chamber of Commerce Scholarship of $250, recipient was Cullen Brown,
Golden Award Scholarship of $500-Victoria McGee and Centennial Honor Scholarship and $3,000
Eunice Chamber of Commerce Scholarship of $250 went to Hunter Thibodeaux, and Golden Award Scholarship of $500 went to Sydney Thibodeaux, and Centennial Honor Scholarship and $3,000.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette presented scholarships to the following students:
Nicole Bertrand, ULL Academic Excellence Scholarship of $7,200 and ULL Symphony Housing Stipend Award of $3,780 and ULL Mable Patterson Lieto Endowed Scholarship of $400.
Logan Fontenot was awarded the ULL Academic and Housing Scholarship of $17,448.
Patricia Hull was granted the ULL Academic Excellence Scholarship of $6,400;
ULL Academic Excellence Scholarship of $7,200 went to Victoria McGee;
Hunter Thibodeaux received the ULL Academic Excellence Scholarship of $7,200; and the ULL Academic and Housing Scholarship of $8,724 went to Sydney Thibodeaux.
LA Tech University is presented the following scholarships to the following student:
Dylan Bieber, Outstanding Student Scholarship of $16,000;
Nicole Bertrand, Academic Scholarship of $30,000;
Victoria McGee, Academic Scholarship of $12,000
Sydney Thibodeaux, State Board of Supervisors Scholarship of $18,000
Northwestern State University presented scholarships to the following students:
Logan Fontenot, Scholar’s College Scholarship of $63,720;
John Hansen Fruge, NSU Scholarship of $43,736;
Victoria McGee, Foundation Scholarship of $16,000;
Sydney Thibodeaux, Academic Excellence Scholarship of $9,600, and NSU Award of $4,000 and President’s Honor Scholarship of $4,000, and President’s Scholarship of $12,000;
Alison Turk was the recipient of the Demon Dazzler Performance Scholarship of $16,000
Louisiana State University presented a scholarship to the following students:
Logan Fontenot, Tiger Excellence Resident Award of $6,000; and Sydney Thibodeaux, Academic Scholars Resident Award of $32,000.
Louisiana State University at Alexandria presented a scholarship to Victoria McGee in the amount of $4,000.
AMDA College and Conservatory presented a scholarship to Alison Turk, VIP Scholarship of $1,000.
Baylor University presented scholarships to Hunter Thibodeaux, Provost’s Gold Scholarship of $34,000, and Baylor University Scholarship of $14,960.
Belhaven University presented scholarships to the following students:
John Hansen Fruge, Academic Scholarship of $44,000, Victoria McGee, Academic Scholarship of $36,000, and Morgan Ruppert, Academic Scholarship of $36,000.
Spring Hill College presented a scholarship to Caroline Hunt, the Gautrelet Award of $64,000.
Keiser University presented a scholarship award to Victoria McGee, Academic Scholarship of $30,000.
St. Leo University presented a scholarship award to Caroline Hunt, Academic Scholarship of $40,000.
The State of Louisiana awards Full Tuition Scholarships to those students who have attended qualified schools for at least two years prior to graduation.
These awards are contingent on the State of Louisiana’s financial budget each year. Provided that the state has money to be allocated to TOPS for the next fiscal year, the following students are anticipated to receive TOPS Scholarships based on the current school data. The State of Louisiana still must verify student grades and issue final TOPS GPAs.
*Students who have earned a 2.5 TOPS grade point average in the TOPS Core
Curriculum and scored at least 20 on the ACT are awarded the TOPS Opportunity scholarship, which includes tuition. The following students are anticipated to receive this award:
Adrienne Bergeaux, Zoe Berzas, Cullen Brown, Blakelyn Feucht, Caroline Fontenot, John Ross Guillory, Lauren Hannon, Caroline Hunt, John Knirk, Kasey LaFleur, Dana LeJeune, Wesley Parker, and Alison Turk.
*Students who have earned a 3.0 TOPS grade point average in the TOPS Core Curriculum AND scored at least 23 on the ACT are awarded the TOPS Performance scholarship. This includes full tuition, certain fees, and $400 a year.
The following students are anticipated to receive this award:
Philippe Aguillard, Jacob Cole Bergeron, Nicole Bertrand, Heidi Bieber, Abigail Brown, Drake Brunet, John Hansen Fruge, Patricia Hull, Lillian Moreau, Brianna Naquin, Morgan Ruppert, Hunter Thibodeaux, and Anne Vezinat.

Curriculum and scored at least 27 on the ACT are awarded the TOPS Honors scholarship which includes full tuition, certain fees, and $800 a year.
The following students are anticipated to receive this award:Dylan Bieber, Logan Fontenot, Alex Marcantel, Vicotria McGee, and Sydney Thibodeaux.
The total anticipated tops award amount is: $749,322
The Beverly Wyble Memorial Award is given to a female student who has the highest academic average and who participated in two sports and the Stanislaus Wyble Memorial Award, which is given to a male student with the highest academic average and who has participated in two sports.
This year, the Beverly Wyble Award goes to Victoria McGee, and the Stanislaus Wyble Award goes to Alex Marcantel.
The Shelby John Manuel Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $100 is awarded to a very deserving senior by St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and this year recipient is Morgan Ruppert.
The American Legion Awards went to John Hansen Fruge and Heidi Bieber for exhibiting character, courage, scholarship, leadership, and service.
The Service Scholarship Awards in the amount of $200 each, are given to young people who have served the St. Anthony Church community faithfully as altar servers from the fifth- grade through their senior year. Recipients are: Philippe Aguillard, Adrienne Bergeaux, Jacob Cole Bergeron, and John Hansen Fruge
The total Tops and scholarship award amounts for the St. Edmund Class of 2016 totals to $1,435,550
The Distinguished Service Award is the most significant award a St. Edmund High School senior can receive. It is, in fact, the highest honor given by St. Edmund High School. The student is selected by the principal for having rendered four years of generous and humble assistance to St. Edmund High School. The 2016 Distinguished Service award recipient is Blakelyn Feucht.
