The first T2 Production Safety Systems class for Eunice High School students received an addition recently at the Eunice Career & Technical Education Center (ECTEC).
Students will now be able to experience hands-on training at their newly installed on-site lab.
The lab is designed to simulate equipment used offshore with students learning to set pressure and volume of process components. This real-time experience teaches students the importance of monitoring various pressure gauges and reacting to different changes that may occur while working in the oil and gas industry.
“This is a great step forward for students in the class,” said Danny Soileau, ECTEC’s Oil & Gas and Welding instructor, “we’ve gone over these processes and reactions in class, but nothing beats hands-on experience, and this lab gives us the ability to show my students what happens and how to react.”
The two-semester course requires complete passage of both parts to earn the T2 Safety certification.
The first semester course focuses on oil and gas production processes, while the second semester course is T2 Safety Systems which emphasizes safe and efficient work practices.
ECTEC works with safety compliance company, J. Schneider & Associates, to provide high school seniors specialized classroom instruction and practical shop experience in oilfield production.
The class provides a general overview of oil and gas production processes, and emphasizes safe and efficient work practices, basic occupational skills and employability skills.
Upon successful completion of the course, students receive their T2 certification and are job-ready.
The Eunice Career and Technical Education Center (ECTEC) offers programs and/or certification in several trade skills, including; Carpentry, Auto Mechanics, CNA, Medical Terminology, First Responder, Welding, Oil & Gas Production, and Culinary Arts.
ECTEC programs and activities are open to all students regardless of race, color, handicap, religion, creed, national origin, age or sex. For more information contact Kristine Joubert at 457-8686.
