"Tuna Does Vegas," Sunday Matinee set for 2 p.m.

Pictured above are Van Reed as Arles, left, and Dr. Kevin Miller as Bertha in Eunice Players’ Theatre’s “Tuna Does Vegas.” A matinee is scheduled today at 2 p.m. and other performances include April 1, 3 & 5 at 7 p.m. A dinner theater is set for Wednesday, April 2 at 6 p.m.

Eunice Players’ Theater landed a lunker of an entertaining stage performance over the opening weekend of “Tuna Does Vegas”. The successful play is adapted from a series of popular plays that feature two male actors playing every part– which consists of nearly a dozen characters.
It’s worth the price of admission or season tickets to see Van Reed and Kevin Miller in the role of everybody in Tuna, Texas. From old men and ladies to young girls and to Las Vegas characters of Elvis #42 and Elvis #11, Reed and Miller test the limits of their endurance with manic costume changes and character development while delivering from a hilariously-written script. While the play is centered around the “third-smallest town” in Texas, the small-town humor is one for big laughs.
Complete with a working elevator on the stage and pre-recorded audio sequences, the play could be one of the best-produced adaptations ever on the Eunice stage. The stage crew and production team hit their marks with perfect timing and the actors feed off of the laughter from the crowd.
The play has a PG-13 feel to it, which made it more enjoyable for adults and teens. While some of the humor may fly over the heads of a younger audience, the laughs know no demographics. If there was one “spoiler alert”, it should be noted that the audience will see Van Reed in working high-heels. Again, the house should be packed during the run of this tickler of a production.
