Acadia Parish Police Jury incumbents lose
Two incumbents were defeated in races for seats on the Acadia Parish Police Jury in the Nov. 21 election
A.J. “Fatty” Broussard and A.J. “Jay” Credeur, both three-term incumbents, were defeated.
Those results mean that, when the eight-member jury is seated in January, five will be first-timers.
Broussard fell to challenger Ronald Fabacher in the race for the District 2 seat on the jury. Both candidates are Republicans
Broussard led a three-candidate field in the Oct. 24 election by a slim 34-vote margin over runner-up Fabacher.
It was Fabacher, however, who led in balloting on Saturday, garnering 1,308 votes, or 54 percent, to Broussard’s 1,115, or 46 percent, according to complete but unofficial returns on Saturday.
Voter turnout in that race was 45 percent.
District 2 is comprised of the central portion of Acadia Parish, primarily north and west of Crowley.
In District 6, Credeur was defeated by Richard A. Faul, who led a four-candidate field in October with 44 percent of the vote.
Faul garnered 1,203 votes, or 62 percent, compared to Credeur’s 748 votes, or 38 percent, in the runoff. Both are Democrats.
Faul led Credeur by 311 votes in October.
Voter turnout in that race was 39 percent.
District 6 is comprised of the northeastern portion of the parish.
New to the jury will be Fabacher, Faul, Danny Hebert in District 1, Chuck Broussard in District 3 and Kerry Kilgore in District 4.
Sitting jurors returned to office by voters include Jimmy Pellerin in District 5, David Savoy in District 7 and Robert Guidry in District 8.
Jurors will take office on Jan. 1, 2016.
