Airport improvements are on council’s radar

Improvements to the Eunice airport are on the city council’s agenda for its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Eunice Municipal Complex.
Four resolutions pertaining the airport are among the agenda items approved during an agenda-setting meeting Thursday.
Drew Miller, airport director, said three of the four resolutions are for a $950,000 runway and taxiway overlay project. Another resolution is for a terminal design.
Other agenda items include:
— Twinning with Jouars-Ponchartrain, France.
— Hiring four police officers.
— Discussing the current mobile home ordinance. Councilman Scott Fontenot brought up the issue of inspecting mobile homes before they are brought into the city.
— An announcement that the Lighthouse Mission fundraiser “Hunters for the Hungry” is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Eunice Fire Department.
— Lloyd Antoine and city attorney Vernon McManus are to discuss the use of golf carts on city streets.
— There is a resolution to request a traffic light on U.S. 190 in front of the Walmart entrance.
— Discussion about bringing penalties for violating city ordinances in line with state statutes.
