Bengal Village full: Mobile homes set up at LSUE for students

LSUE’s fall enrollment may have grown by 8 percent to about 2,700 students, but the growth evidently wasn’t anticipated for Bengal Village.
Bengal Village was overbooked, Van Reed, director of public relations, said.
As a result, four mobile homes have been placed near the gymnasium to house 21 students, he said.
Reed said work has been nonstop to complete the installation of the trailers. That work includes obtaining utilities such as power, water and internet connections.
“Hopefully, by December they all will be gone,” Reed said of the mobile homes.
Campus Living Villages manages Bengal Village at LSUE. The apartment complex has 219 beds.
By Tuesday, most of the utility connections had been made. But residents did not have water hooks. Instead, 3500-gallon tanks were providing water for uses other than drinking.
Each trailer can house up to six people, he said.
“We had no clue until the week before school started,” Reed said of the overbooking at Bengal Village.
“We are scrambling to take care of the situation,” he added.
The final count on the fall enrollment occurs on the 14th day of classes, which is Sept. 8, he said.
