The St. Landry Parish School Board directed Superintendent Edward Brown to determine how many principals the school system should have.
The board wants a policy that would stipulate the schools that need principals.
The school system has 33 sites where students are given state-mandated tests, but there are two additional schools, Washington Vocational and Technical and the St. Landry Alternative Training School, where the are principals, but no state testing.
After Thursday’s meeting, Brown said the board has the authority to dissolve positions and the attrition also offers a solution.
In another action related to principals, 10 elementary school principals who had been placed on an 11-month pay schedule were bumped up to a 12-month pay schedule by the school board. The change will cost about $88,000 a year additional in pay.
Brown said the principals’ salaries were reduced several years ago in a cost-cutting move.
The School Board approved Dupre, Carriere & Godchaux as its building insurer and an annual premium of $926,176. The other bid was $1,057,174 from Reeves, Coon & Funderburg Risk Services of Louisiana.
In a statement of value for 2015, the total school systems’ total property value is $326,082,000. Of that, $295,767,00 is buildings, $27,785,00 is contents and $2,784,000 is mechanical equipment.
The board also approved performance objects for the superintendent.
