Branch man indicted in June shooting death
Kenneth Scott Prather, 34, of Branch, has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the June shooting death of Jordy Bellard, KATC is reporting.
At the time, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz reported Bellard, 31, of Eunice, and Prather had been arguing at a residence on Shelton Manuel Road near Eunice.
A 31-year-old Church Point woman, who was not identified, was wounded in the incident, Guidroz reported.
An arrest affidavit stated Prather shot Bellard twice in the back, then once in the head while Bellard was down because he told police he wanted to “eliminate the threat,” KATC reported.
Prather faced several drug charges at the time of the shooting.
If convicted, he faces a life sentence.
