Brothers' argument ends in one being stabbed, shot

A day-long argument between two brothers ended with one being stabbed and shot and the other charged with attempted first-degree murder, and both in jail.
According to records, Eunice police were first alerted that the shooting had occurred when the victim, Emerick St. Andre, went to the Acadian Medical Center ER just before 1 a.m. Monday.
The hospital advised that the victim had multiple puncture wounds and had been shot with buckshot.
Responding officers spoke with the St. Andre who stated that he was at a residence at 711 Anne when his brother Melvin Reed, 34, came over.
St. Andre said that he and Reed had been arguing all day Sunday over different issues.
St. Andre told investigators that Reed left and later returned. St. Andre said that Reed exited his truck making threats and that he pulled out a long, silver knife and stabbed St. Andre three times.
The victim said that Reed went back to his truck and retrieved a shot gun and fired at him one time, striking him in the legs and feet.
St Andre was transported to AMC via private vehicle. St. Andre was treated and released.
Reed was located at his residence and taken to the police station where he was booked on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder. He will have to make formal application for a bond hearing.
St Andre was arrested later Monday by State Probation Officers and transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail.
Both brothers have extensive arrest records in Eunice.
