'Cajun Face' set for Liberty on Oct. 3
A Friday night performance of “Cajun Face”, a multi-media production about young Cajuns in Acadiana, will be held at the Liberty Theater on Oct. 3 from 6:30 until 8 p.m.
Tickets are $5, general admission seating, and doors and ticket window open at 5:30 p.m.
“Cajun Face” was written and is performed by Lian Cheramie and Sarah Mikayla Brown.
It is a collection of vignettes that reflect Cheramie and Brown’s experiences as young Cajuns living in Acadiana. Humorous, personal and poignant, Cajun Face themes include: families, defining what it means to be Cajun, dating, and as well as the decision to leave or stay in Louisiana.
Brown returned to Acadiana in 2012 after living in Chicago for nearly a decade. Her experiences living in the “big city” and returning “home” are explored in the piece, and will likely resonate with many in her generation who have left home, or those who have considered the benefits and costs of a move.
Alternately, Cheramie, after moving around a great deal as a child, has chosen to live her adult life in Lafayette, personally witnessing the cultural investment of many young people in Acadiana, as they embrace, grow to understand, and sometimes struggle with their unique heritage.
The show was first performed at the Acadiana Center for the Arts last November.
