Cajun French Music Association honors former Eunice mayor Curtis Joubert

Former Eunice Mayor Curtis Joubert, who established tourism in Eunice, was honored Friday by the Cajun French Music Association with its Pioneer Award during ceremony Friday at the Rayne Civic Center.
The Le Cajun award is given to a person who has dedicated a minimum of 30 years to the Cajun French music, language or culture, and has maintained a high level of respect in the community.
The recipient may be a musician, songwriter, teacher, business leader, clergy or announcer.
Joubert laid the foundation for cultural tourism in Eunice and the region as an elected official and state tourism executive.
Although retired, Joubert often is called upon to help greet French-speaking visitors in their native tongue.
Joubert’s accomplishments include:
Supported the formation of CODOFIL — Council for the Development of French in Louisiana.
Helped in the formation of the Cajun French Music Association.
As mayor was instrumental in obtaining the Acadian Culture Centers in Eunice, Lafayette and Thibodaux.
As mayor, created the Saturday Night Rendez Vous de Cajun Show at the Liberty Theatre in Eunice.
As mayor, was honored by Congrès Mondial Acadien in New Brunswick, Canada, as guest speaker on “Cajun Life in Louisiana.”
Was honored at the Niort festival in France where he spoke about life in Louisiana.
Worked with the Louisiana Department of Tourism and helped with the Francofete celebration.
Inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in Winnfield and as member of the Erath Museum Legends of Acadiana.
